The North Channel Area Chamber of Commerce helped welcomed the first Shell Federal Credit Union (FCU) to the area on August 14 with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The grand opening will continue through the end of the week with free refreshments and prizes being offered to new customers.
Shell FCU President and CEO Jose Rodriguez welcomed everyone to the Grand Opening and introduced the new branch manager, Jessieca Austin. The new branch is one of over 60 branches in the greater Houston area and offers a variety of financial services including savings, checking and a wide variety of loans.
Nicole Hernandez, an official with Shell, explained the difference between a Federal Credit Union and a bank. She said, “A Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit organization. It is member owned. For a small fee of $5, you become a part owner. We offer lower rates on loans and higher rates on deposits. We are very family oriented and we pride ourselves on service.”
Shell FCU is also community oriented. For information on volunteer opportunities sponsored by Shell FCU, go to their web site: www.govolunteertoday.org. For daily blogs, videos, pictures, contests, quizzes and info about financial education, go to www.sfcuilife.org.
Customers can earn a chance to win an iPad every day during the week of August 13-18 by opening a new checking account or financing or refinancing a 5K loan. Opening a new account or taking out a loan can also qualify members to win Major prizes including a new 2012Camero or cash prizes as part of Shell FCU’s 75th anniversary celebration this year.
For details on contests or services go to www.shellfcu.org, or stop by the new branch located at 5544 E. Sam Houston Parkway North (next to La Quinta) and talk to one of their friendly representatives.
